As anticipated the new full-sized iPads gets a moderate update. Starting things off w/ the iPad Air 2, it is now super thin. About 6.1mm to be exact. Thinner than last year’s model as you can stack two mini 2s and still thinner than the original iPad. Making it the thinnest tablet in the world.
Inside of the Air 2 lies an even faster, 2nd-gen 64-bit CPU to offer over 40% faster computing and 2.5x faster graphics. Also on-board is the 2nd-gen M8 co-processor that adds a barometer along w/ reading your motions, etc. The Air 2 has new shooters as well. On the rear, you now have an f/2.4 8MP iSight camera that supports burst mode + 1080p HD video. On the front, you have a new FaceTime camera that offers better image quality along w/ single-shot HDR photos, HDR video, improved face detection, and burst mode on the front as well. Also, you have dual mics for better audio when recording video or using Facetime.
As we already knew, Touch ID comes to the iPad Air2. This will support Apple Pay as well but on the tablet it will support only online purchases and not point-of-sale ones. Also equipped w/ faster Wi-Fi support and more LTE bands for faster, more ways to get connected.
The Air 2 starts at $499 for the 16GB and arrives in the new 3rd color option of Gold as we anticipated. Pre-orders kick off tomorrow and will begin to ship next week.
