As the effects of RAM-ageddon continue to spread to your favorite products, another piece of consumer technology was hit with a price hike yesterday. Microsoft is hiking the price of its Xbox consoles again, following a price increase last fall.
Microsoft says that the price of console storage and memory has gone up by 2.5x and expects it to double by 2027. Starting on August 1st, the price for 512GB Xbox consoles will increase by $100, and the 1TB models by $150. In a few weeks, the Xbox Series S will start at $500, the Series X without a disc drive will start at $750, and the Series X with a disc drive will start at a whopping $800.
Microsoft is working with partners to make new Xbox consoles more affordable through buy now, pay later, interest-free financing, and by selling cheaper, pre-owned consoles. In addition to the price increases, the company is discontinuing the 2TB variant of its Xbox Series X console.
Hard to believe the consoles launched at $300 for the Series S and $500 for the Series X back in the fall of 2020. So you have a few weeks to try to score one if you’re in the market. Fortunately, Walmart has all of the Xbox consoles slightly below current retail pricing.
