Earlier this evening at Radio City Music Hall, Samsung put on a grand production for the unveiling of the Galaxy S4. When I say it a production, I am not kidding. That Jeremy kid can tap dance his ass off for real. It gave me flashback as I attended an arts high school. Samsung truly showed its financial power. But enough about that, let’s get into what you came to see or read.
- The S4 is definitely lighter and thinner than the previous model. The plastic body is as cheap as usual but still no where near the premium feel as the One or the iPhone 5.
- The display is improved as it has gone up from 720p to 1080p HD. From the HD YouTube videos I viewed, it is pretty nice.
- The 13MP camera is solid. From shutter to processing, it is really fast. The image quality looked better than on the GSIII but when we take the photos somewhere that is not the GS4 display, then we shall really see how good it is. Video processing was fast as well.
- Dual Shot works well not sure how often this would get used but good to have that option.
- Drama Shot is cool where you can take a burst of shots and overlap them. Think slow-motion movement captured in a photo.
- Eraser Shot removes any photo-bombers from ruining a shot by taking a series of photos & detecting any motion.
- Although we’ve seen Smart Scrolling + Pause tested before us, its still a hit or miss. Sometimes it works and other times no go. Not surprised as they built it around the Smart Stay form the GSIII which only kinda worked.
- Air View works like on the Note II. A good bonus feature.
- Air Gestures worked similar to the swiping screenshot on the GSIII. Not sure how much real-world use this would get though.
- Samsung made sure to also tweak the notifications shade of TouchWiz to display even more info.
- Samsung snuck on an Infrared Blaster on the top near the headphone jack to work with their Samsung TV app w/Peel software to control what your TV.
- S Translator works OK. Looking forward to spending more time with it for the full review.
- Samsung is putting your life on your phone with S Health. The GS4 is armed with a pedometer, barometer, & temperature indicator that detects your movements. You can input your diet & sleep habits for analysis. As an added accessory, Samsung has the new S-Band which works like the Fuel Band to monitor your activity and record it on the S Health app.
- Didn’t get a chance to demo the Group Play feature for those of you wondering.

It was an interesting to show to say at the least. I (Rod) needs to see more while Levon is already sold for the most part. When we get one to review, questions will be revealed and doubt will proved or crushed.
