Well, after being heavily rumored during the pandemic, it looks like Netflix is adding ads to a cheaper tier of the popular streaming service.  This comes directly from the source from the company’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos during an interview as reported from The Hollywood Reporter.

Why might they do this you may ask?  The company feels like they left a huge customer base off of the table.  This can answer the call of those wanting a cheaper access to Netflix but w/ ads.  And this can help combat the loss of subscribers (200,000 to be exact) during Q1 of this year.

While its still the largest streaming service (numbers-wise), the loss and growth of the competition made them re-evaluate how they do certain things.  Now, the company is still in negotiations to narrow down what kind of ads they would show on their service.  It has been reported that Google & NBCUniversal are the top 2 contenders via the Wall Street Journal.

Netflix is aiming to roll out the ad-supported tier by the end of 2022.  This will be joined by Disney Plus cheaper version w/ ads as well.  So w/ this bit of news coming out, expect them to lock down password-sharing and limiting users.  So when it happens, don’t be surprised.
