I think it’s safe to say that Google’s Fitbit Air is a success; we thoroughly enjoyed using it for our review and have been continuously wearing it. But now that the Fitbit Air has been out for a bit and the dust has more or less settled, one might wonder, where are the third-party accessories and bands?
Well, earlier this week, Google just opened the floodgates by releasing the complete hardware specs and accessory design guidelines to the public. This means everything from 2D CAD drawings, physical dimensions, and design blueprints is now out and about. Ergo, tinkers and accessory companies alike can now create accessories and bands for the Fitbit Air.
You may even come up with a solution before casemakers hit the market. Google is also open to accepting your pitch, and your designs could get the Made for Google badge program. If you check Reddit, Threads, and YouTube, you’ll already see a few folks hacking the Fitbit Air to add a Casio watch on the default band and placing the hardware onto a chest strap.
