In the smaller print of today’s Apple WWDC announcements, there’s some news that will upset many older Apple Watch owners. The company revealed the list of older devices set to support the latest watchOS 27 update, and Apple cut off more recent-generation Apple Watches than usual.

Traditionally, Apple’s software updates would usually span nearly 5 years of older devices, but this year, they’re only going back several years. So if you own an Apple Watch Series 8 or older, you won’t gain access to the newest software update. This leaves owners of the 2nd-gen Watch SE, and Series 6, 7, and 8 out of the watchOS 27 party, as I’m not sure if this is due to hardware limitations or not.

But this can be upsetting when you hear that iOS 27 will support devices dating back to the iPhone 11. However, Siri AI support may or may not make the cut. Similarly, the 3rd-gen iPad Air and 8th-gen iPad won’t make the cut for the new iPadOS 27 update as well.
