Yesterday, Apple made 2 of their upcoming software updates available via public beta w/ iOS 14 + iPadOS 14.  These are considered as the 2nd beta of the new software as the original pone was the developer-only one available directly after WWDC last month.

For a quick recap, iOS 14 will bring over things like widgets, App Library (a form of an app drawer), a new Translator app, smaller UI for phone calls + Siri taking up a lot less of screen space, and much more.  While on the iPad side of things, iPadOS 14 will offer a universal search bar, new sidebars within apps, smaller UI for Siri + FaceTime calls, their new Scribble feature which allows you to turn handwritten notes into typed text, and more.

So now for the part you came for, getting it on my device. Please remember to backup your iPhone/iPad before grabbing these betas.  And make sure your device is compatible as iOS 14 will go back to the iPhone 6S which includes both versions of the SE.  While iPadOS 14 will go back to devices like the iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, 5th-gen iPad, & all versions of the iPad Pro.

How to grab iOS 14 Public Beta:

  • Go to Apple’s beta software portal from the Safari browser
  • Select “Enroll Your Devices”
  • Select “iOS,”
  • Hit “Download profile,”  Select “Allow.” You will get a pop-up window that says you can set the new profile from the Settings app.
  • Open the Settings app. A new section called “Profile Downloaded” should be added near the top. Select it, and you’ll have access to the beta software download.
  • If nothing happens, then head to Settings, then to General, then find “Software Update” to install the beta software
