Earlier this week, the folks over at Hyundai gave everyone a first look at their upcoming EV: the Ioniq 6 sedan. Hyundai didn’t give us everything about it but a nice photo dump of 10 or so images w/ a few details to go along w/ it.
Interestingly enough, the Ioniq 5 draws from retro 70s design cues while the Ioniq 6 is more so from older vehicles from the 20s or more notable the Porsche 911 line. The Ioniq 6 will be revealed in full next month on July 14th w/ production starting soon to go on sale in 2023.
Based on the images, we can see that it will offer several touchscreens w/ a 12inch infotainment display + a 12inch digital instrument panel. All while no completely killing off the use of physical buttons for safety reasons. You’ll have the ability to change the interior colors w/ your choice of up to 64 in total as well as some lighting by the steering column to show when charging or listening/processing voice commands.
Outside of that, expect it to use the same E-GMP (Electric- Global Modular Platform) as on the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. This gives you up to 315 miles per charge, 800V fast-charging, and the ability to charge smaller electronics w/ the car’s battery. And w/ the Ioniq 6 being a more streamlined design, this should benefit even more so from the platform in speed/range.
And this is coming off of the heels of their award-winning Ioniq 5 crossover EV w/ faster charging and similar range for less. Not to mention that Hyundai’s EV market share is rapidly growing here in the US as well as in Europe. If this is a glimpse of what the competition will be doing moving forward, me thinks Tesla should be nervous.
