Now Canon has been teasing this one for a while since their last EOS R offering and now it is here. Meet the new Canon EOS R3 in all of its glory. This is made to sit in-between the mirrorless EOS R5 and the high-end 1DX.
The EOS R3 is armed w/ tons of features & specs to be super competitive. Now it visually mirrors that of the 1D X Mk III w/ a magnesium alloy design w/ built-in vertical grip. its capable of weather/dust resistance as well. You have a 24MP sensor, ISO up to 102,400 to compete w/ the A7S III in low-light, can shoot high-speed up to 30fps w/ its electronic shutter + 12fps w/ its mechanical shutter, and armed w/ 1,053 AF points for fast AF performance & even better eye + body detection.
As far as connections, you got LAN, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB-C, 1 UHS-II SD + CFexpress card slot. And lest we forgot, a flip-out 3.2inch LCD screen as well for visuals if you’re not using a monitor or the 5.6 million dot EVF.
In regards to the video side of things, we’re looking at 6K RAW up to 30fps, uncropped 10-bit 4K up to 120fps in Canon Log 3, and can shoot oversampled 4K RAW internally. And its built-on in-body image stabilization will give you up to 8 stops to help w/ shaky situations.
Canon’s EOS R3 will be out in November for $6,000 for the body-only as you can pre-order now. This might look good but might be a tough-sell for some as Sony and even Canon has more affordable alternatives on the market.
