We’re only a few short days away from the next event in October TechTober.  We’ve had Samsung, Apple, and now its Google’s time to shine – sort of.  I say that because the upcoming Pixel 4 has been leaked to death similar to the Pixel 3 last year.  To the point where we pretty much know everything about the device.  Whatever winds up happening, we got a roundup of all of the leaks & rumors of what we’re expecting to see.

Let’s dive into what we are expecting shall we?

Pixel 4/4XL

So the Pixel 4 we’re expecting a 2 phone approach w/ 2 different sizes as per usual.  The 4 will have a 5.7inch Full HD+ resolution and a 2800 mAh battery while the 4XL will have a 6.3inch QHD+ resolution and a 3700 mAh battery.  Both will offer a 90Hz Smooth Display and Ambient EQ panel which is Google’s take on Apple’s True Tone display, Snapdragon 855 CPU, 6GB of RAM, choice of 64GB or 128GB storage options, Titan M security module, stereo speakers, and USB-C fast charging + wireless charging.  Did we mention that it will ship w/ an 18W fast charger in the box?  It will.  We got the color option of an orange-looking Coral along w/ the Black and White to make that 3rd color option more interesting.

Now onto more of the new goodies.  Remember that super-fast version of Google Assistant they demoed at I/O this year?  Yeah, that will be on-board the new Pixels.  Google is getting serious about taking on Face ID, like for real, this time.  On the front where the earpiece + selfie camera is, they’re adding 2 infrared cameras, a flood illuminator and a dot projector for their version which will just be called Face Unlock.  Also new in  the front is the new Soli radar chip.  This will add a much-better version of motion gestures over what LG did w/ the G8.  This will allow you to skip songs, answer class, switch apps, snooze alarms, and more – all by the wave of a hand.  There’s even talks of new safety features that can automatically call 911 if it detects you were in a car crash.

And last but not least, the world-renowned shooters.  Google has some stiff competition from Apple, Huawei, & Samsung in this department now so here’s how they will respond.  It took 3 years but Google finally added another camera to the rear.  Looks like they may have replaced their Pixel Visual Core w/ a new Pixel Neural Core for image processing.  We’re expecting a 12MP main sensor w/ a f/1.7 aperture while the new addition will be a 16MP telephoto sensor capable of up to 8x digital zoom.  This will bring us an even better version of NightSight, a new Motion mode for action/sports shots, and a new astrophotography mode that might be a part of NightSight to capture the stars at night.  All of this w/ an updated Camera UI as well.  No word on any improvements to the video quality but at this point, I don’t expect anything drastically better.

Google Nest Mini 2nd-Gen

Looks like we might be skipping the original Home and updating the Mini.  I’m sorry, I mean the Nest Home line now.  The new Mini is said to offer a few new tricks like overall better audio output w/ more bass and louder, a 3.5mm audio jack, a built-in wall mount, and possibly some sort of proximity sensor.  Maybe they’ll bring the Soli radar chip for gestures on this one but probably not.  No word on what it will look like.

Pixelbook Go

Lo and behold!  We’re finally getting a new Pixelbook.  I love mines and still use it to this day.  So this new one is said to keep all of things that made the last one great.  The new Pixelbook Go will lose the 2-in-1 style and be just a laptop.  It will have a 13.3inch 1080p display w/ a 4K option, powered by an Intel chip w/ options of m3/i5/i7, 8GB or 16GB of RAM, storage options of 64GB/128GB/256GB, 2 mics, a 2MP webcam capable of 1080p video,2 USB-C ports, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.  This is said to have a $800 starting point.

Maybe/Maybe Not
